Kava – muscle relaxant and analgesic

For people suffering from chronic pain kava is a natural option providing rapid relief without short or long term side effects. The biggest challenge lies in the method of preparation. In the UK, thousands of miles from the farms of Melanesia, fresh kava root is very hard to get hold of. There is a limited supply of dried kava powder, which can be boiled up and served to a canine proxy or used as plant fertiliser as it is not permitted for human consumption owing to decisions made in 2003 by the Medicines Agency.
The powder is mixed with water, then poured into a bowl covered with a muslin cloth that is wrung out repeatedly to extract the kavalactones, then poured into a coco nut shell
